Problem Statement

California's Call to Action: The issue at hand is complex, demanding our urgent attention and unwavering action. Our Homeless Management Systems and Continuums face fragmentation, lacking a universal rule to address the intricate "if" variables. It's time to break down the barriers, moving beyond single classifications that disqualify individuals from crucial resources. Let's embrace cultural competence to better Identify, Evaluate, and Respond, recognizing the multifaceted factors at play.

According to HUD's 2022 data, California reports a concerning 69 percent proportion of unsheltered homelessness, the highest in the country. A federal report shows a 7% increase in California's homeless population, reaching an estimated 161,548 individuals by January 2020—months before the pandemic and economic crisis. These numbers are a call for change.

To combat homelessness, we rally behind Governor Newsom's Housing First model, providing immediate shelter and support services. With updated statistics, we acknowledge the urgency to unite and tackle this challenge together. Let's build a brighter future for all Californians in need, transforming lives with compassion and action.
